Biography

“If you really want to know about me…”

My career in Theatre, Film & TV has spanned over 50 years Actually a lot longer if you count the time from when I was 2 years old and touring while my Dad was performing in the national tour of “Mr. Roberts”.  I cut my teeth on my Dad’s collection of theatre books and plays.

By the time I was a Sophmore in High School, I knew I wanted to be an actress.  I was very lucky that my parents supported my choice of career!  Truth is, my Dad was very proud that I’d chosen the same career and he was always my biggest fan.

I have a BA in Theatre Arts from Hosftra University – Performance Major, Theatre Tech. minor

My professional career started with apprenticing in “Summer Stock”, extra and stand-in work in film, and doing light comedy “Dinner Theatre” shows.

For some reason, film & television held a major attraction for me. I packed up and headed to Hollywood in the seventies.

In LA I got a “regular” job with a Commercial Casting Director – setting up and running auditions.  I was invited to teach one of their classes that’s when I was bitten by the “teaching bug” and I’ve continued to teach ever since then.

I also landed a job as a Stand-In on the ever popular “Facts Of Life” series, which I did for seven years!  It was steady work, I was learning lots and they let me do any other acting work I would get.  It was an awesome opportunity!

I took a workshop called “The Mastery” – a workshop newly imported from New York by The Actors’ Institute, created by Dan Fauci and offered in LA by a relatively unknown actor at the time, Ted Danson.

It was the most powerful workshop I had ever done!  In one weekend, it changed my life!  I eventually ran the Los Angeles branch of The Actors’ Institute and trained to lead “The Mastery”. I’ve been leading this workshop for forty years and continue to do so to this day.

I came to Vancouver to do “The Mastery” in the early eighties, fell in love with the city and a Canadian boy, gave up LA (and acting), and moved to Vancouver in ’86.

I did marry that “Canadian boy” and by the time our daughter arrived, I had a studio full of classes running day & night, other teachers on board and my own acting career in full swing.

When I realized I was missing my daughter’s childhood, I took a break from it all and followed my husband to Jamaica, West Indies, where he was working in one of the resorts.  I spent the next three years gratefully just being “mom”.

When I returned to Vancouver I worked as a Dialect Coach on the TV series, “Fringe”, for 5 seasons.  In between seasons, I wrote my “AuditionCraft for Film & TV‘ book.

Very glad for the update, Linda, thrilled you’re still imparting your considerable gifts to other artists, and delighted you’re acting so successfully. I’ve come across several of your Christmas letters from years back which prompted this little note. Onward!

Hi Linda, remember when you played corine nebith on Newhart? I love that show, and that’s one of my favorite episodes because of the way you acted so deadpan, “gave bob run for his money “ nifty drumming too, and you looked great in that sparkly dress !anyway just wanted to let you know you probably don’t get comments about that too often huh good luck.

Wow Linda your teaching taught me that I’m still at the tip of the iceberg! 1992. I have been standing In for the last 18 years and want to see if it is possible to book. Your classes were good and appreciate your words now that I’m older resonating in my memory of those young Vancouver days.

I was watching Murder She Baked: Chocolate Chip Cookies, from 2015. I enjoyed your portrayal of hard working Betty who thought she’d shot her nasty boss. I’ve watched the show several times in the past and always got a kick out of the character. You gave Betty a refreshing treatment of lightness and humor in her frustration. I’ve enjoyed reading about your journey in acting from childhood until the present. Blessings for your teaching and theatrical work.

Nice to see all your accomplishments, Linda. Doris and Jim would have been so proud!
Keep up the good work. You look great! Blessings, Aline (your cuz)
